As the American Nurses Association expands National Nurses Week into a month-long celebration this year, our TroyRx team recognizes nurses are the driving force ensuring patients receive quality care. It requires patient advocates who ask tough questions, dig into complex issues, and find feasible solutions. Those advocates are frequently nurses who provide some of the inspiration behind DischargeRx.
DischargeRx eases the burden providers and nurses encounter when discharging patients. The fully integrated software automatically adds adherence-supportive information to the discharge packet or after-visit summary. Delivered through printouts or digital links to a patient’s smart phone, the personalized information includes applicable copay assistance programs for branded specialty medications and cash savings prescription discounts. Patients walk away from their visits with the tools necessary to affordably obtain and stay on their medications. Nurses on the frontlines of the discharge process understand the value of uncovering challenges impacting a patient’s ability to adhere to their treatment plan. Studies and patient surveys consistently confirm cost as a main reason for medication abandonment. Fifty-three percent of patients report they have abandoned their prescription because the medication was too expensive. Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems, or HCAHPS, survey scores can increase simply through open communication from nurses as they educate the patient at discharge on how to pay for their prescriptions.
Due to rising healthcare costs, the numbers are also startling for patients with insurance. Forty-six percent of patients on a high-deductible plan want information about cash options outside of insurance. By connecting patients to the affordability options delivered by DischargeRx, hospital administrators can drastically cut readmission rates due to medication nonadherence, which are estimated to be around 69 percent. Uninsured and underinsured patients are armed with savings options for all their prescriptions and positively improve their health by adhering to necessary treatment plans.
According to the American Nurses Association, there are 4 million nurses in the country directly impacting the health and wellbeing of our communities. Since the pandemic, recognizing their dedication and finding ways to support nurses is critical. We have them in mind as we build innovative solutions that enhance the way nurses can care for their patients. From all of us at TroyRx, Happy National Nurses Month!
